Sean Bisceglia is a serial entrepreneur whose sixth and most recent acquisition is Connecticut-based Product Ventures, purchased last June. The packaging structure design firm provides product and packaging solutions for Fortune 500 companies including Kraft Heinz, Nestle and PepsiCo. Bisceglia and his wife live in Kenilworth with their three children.
How can Product Ventures make a global difference? By producing packaging that is 100 percent recyclable or designed with less plastic. If I could help solve one world problem, it would be reducing that Texas-sized island of waste called the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. It’s an environmental nightmare. The packages we design may be produced by the millions each year. If they are more biodegradable, we can make a dent in that island.
A good idea you would like to import from abroad? Europe hosts a variety of environmental conferences. I would like to see an auto-show-sized “green” conference in Chicago focusing on eco-friendly materials and design. It would be good for the environment, build Chicago’s eco-reputation and boost our local economy.
Your go-to hidden gems in Chicago? Billy Goat Tavern under Michigan Avenue. It has a well-worn, vintage atmosphere, including the “wall of fame” with photos of local celebrities and old newspaper articles written by famous Chicago newspaper columnists. Another historic and more elegant spot is the Driehaus Museum near the Magnificent Mile. It’s located in a beautifully restored Gilded Age home and has an esoteric collection of art, architecture and design. I like the intimate setting and experiencing the exhibits close-up.
